JJFILM PTE. LTD., based in Singapore, specializes in original film production, cross-border social impact cinema, and performing arts training. The company was first established in 2021 under the brand “Be a STAR,” focusing on actor training and original film creation. With growing regional impact and a clear international vision, it was formally incorporated in 2024 as JJFILM PTE. LTD., expanding into a full-fledged film company with cross-border collaboration and social impact at its core.

Guided by the pillars of Film · Education · Social Impact · Cross-Border Collaboration, JJFILM develops works that foster cultural dialogue and social reflection. Its training arm, Be a STAR, combines real on-set practice with performance training to cultivate a new generation of both on-screen and behind-the-scenes talents, while driving cross-border public welfare film initiatives.

FOUNDER'S PROFILE

Director Yeo Sze Liang, originally from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, came to Singapore in 1999 to pursue his career in film and television, and became a Singapore citizen in 2024. He is the Founder of JJFILM PTE. LTD., a Singapore-registered film and media company, and serves as a senior tutor of the I Wan b a Star Film & Performing Arts Training Program. Deeply involved in both film education and production, Director Yeo is dedicated to advancing cross-border social impact films and nurturing performing arts talent.

He graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA), majoring in Film & TV Production and minoring in Directing and Acting, and furthered his studies at the National Taiwan University of Arts, Department of Film & TV Media. Proficient in screenwriting, directing, acting, and post production, he has over 20 years of hands-on experience across Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan, contributing to and creating numerous acclaimed international film and television works.

Key career highlights include:

  • TV drama and telemovie productions with Malaysia’s TV3, NTV7, and Wayang Tinggi 
  • Joining SPH MediaWorks Channel U in 2000, producing documentaries, docu-dramas, and news features
  • Covering the SARS crisis in 2003 as a frontline filmmaker and reporter for Channel U
  • Continued collaborations post-merger with Mediacorp and independent production houses such as The Moving Visual, Oak 3 Films, Screenbox, Orche Picture and etc.
  • His short film Love.Hope (2008) was shortlisted at the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival among entries from 33 countries, and won Best Film and Best Special Effects at Malaysia’s Astro Film Awards

 

  • Frequently appointed as an acting coach by major media companies for their signed artistes

With a strong professional foundation and extensive cross-border experience, Director Yeo is both a creator and an educator, actively cultivating the next generation of film and performing arts talent while driving the growth of Singapore’s and the region’s film industry.
